New York City based Cover Story DooWop is a unique vocal ensemble made up of 4 singers and 1 upright bass player. Though not an a cappella group by the strict definition, it is unofficially an a cappella singing group, specializing in R&B/Soul of the 50's, 60's, and 70's in an old school, no power necissary, street corner doo-wop style.
Cover Story is the merger of two defunct, but once iconic, NYC doowop groups Acapella Soul and Select Blendz. In 2012, long time Acapella Soul members Lamont Baker, Gerard Gideons and Todd Grunder teamed up with Jerome Cohen, Billy Chavis and Raisin' Cain of Select Blendz to form Cover Story DooWop. The Group made Central park's Bethesda Terrace there home in 2014 and can be still be found there today!(or in Soho on weekends).
Since their inception in 2012, the line up has undergone several changes. Fan favorites Raisin' Cain and Gerard Gideons have left the group to pursue other ventures and Herman Leath and Charles Owens have become permanent members making today's line up: Lamont Baker, Jerome Cohen, Charles Owens Jr., Herman Leath, Todd Grunder with Billy Chavis and Scout Ford as alternates.
